FIRST WORDS ...
Pastor Jennifer Cummins

1 Corinthians 2:9-10

“What no eye has seen,
     what no ear has heard,
and what no human mind has conceived”—
the things God has prepared for those who love him—

These are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit.”

I wonder if you sense the Holy Spirit moving as I do. I have this feeling of joyful anticipation for what the LORD has prepared for Northminster in a new season. Summer is soon moving into Fall, yes. School buses are moving around town again as kids and teachers begin a new school year. Even NFL football games begin tonight, and yet, I think God is doing something even more than the usual end-of-summer/turning to fall bustling!

There is a fun spirit with faith in Jesus growing in the heart of Northminster student ministry. There is something akin to a big smile and new inspiration bursting from our children and the KidsMin Core Team as we launch into Sunday morning KID ZONE. There is a new energy with the invitation for all of us to “Go For 2!” so that we would worship and stay for the second hour of Sunday School this fall as we grow together as disciples of Jesus. AND. AND, this weekend, the Pastor Nominating Committee is eager to introduce the Pastor Candidate to the Northminster Church family and friends. I hope you will make extra effort to be in worship this Sunday and plan to stay for the congregational meeting and potluck. Let’s welcome the pastor candidate and his family.

“The things God has prepared for those who love Him – these are the things God has revealed to us by His Spirit.” I, for one, am brimming with joyful anticipation to see what God has prepared for this wonderful church – all to His glory! Are you as excited as I am? I am guessing you are. See you Sunday, friends.

With enthusiastic anticipation and joy in the LORD,

<><Pastor Jennifer

CONGREGATIONAL MEETING & BRUNCH

The Session has called a Special Congregational meeting on Sunday, August 10th, at 10:00 (immediately following worship) for the purpose of receiving the Pastor Nominating Committee and nomination of the pastor candidate. Northminster Covenant Partners will vote on the candidate. More information about this candidate will be available this Sunday.

The PNC is excited for you to have an opportunity to personally meet this candidate and family at the brunch following the congregational meeting in the Fellowship Hall. If you are able to bring food to share or have time to decorate tables, please SIGN UP HERE.

Let's celebrate this milestone and thank God for this new season in the life of Northminster.

KID ZONE NEWS
Kid Zone help needed!

As we  "Go for 2"  this fall and Sunday School hour begins, Kid Zone needs additional help caring for our kids! So, we're looking for volunteers for the Sunday School hour, from 10:00-11:00. If you're able to help out a couple of times this fall semester, you'll still be able to attend a Sunday School class of your choosing. Check this video out for more info, and if you're interested in helping disciple our kids, reach out to Michael at michaelb@northminster.us.

ST. JUDE RUNNERS ~ PIT STOP @ NPC
August 2nd - Dunlap Run Notes
  • 2025 was our 19th year
  • approximately 100 runners
  • run route of 30 miles
  • Raised 300K this year, a record, and $2.8M overall
  • Ended at the Peoria Civic Center with over 30 other runs, including the team from Memphis
  • The day culminated with the St. Jude telethon which raised over $12M for the kids of St. Jude.
Each week, students come together to play games, enjoy snacks, and build meaningful friendships—but the heart of everything we do is helping students know Jesus and grow in their faith

Kicking off August 17 during our 2nd hour for Middle School & High School Students is our series "Trueish".

It's an 8 weeks Apologetics Root that focuses on some statements that are commonly believed to be biblical, but aren't. It's important that we don't mishandle the Word of God. If we are going to say, "Well, the Bible says...," then the Bible better say it. We also need to know the difference between truth and half-truths.

PICKLEBALL TOURNAMENT
Northminster Presbyterian Church is hosting the 3rd Annual ALS Memorial Pickleball Tournament. Find a partner and join in the fun.  All donations will go to ALS and stay local to support those battling this devastating disease. We’re also looking for volunteers to contribute baked goods for our bake sale.

YPM ~ MEXICO MISSION TRIPS – 2026

https://www.ypmusa.org/

Each week will include 12 to 14 participants (though there’s always room for one more!). Participants are welcome — and encouraged — to stay for multiple weeks!

🛠 Project Focus
This year, we’ll continue construction efforts by working on the second building on the IYPM campus. Each week will also include interactions with local university and high school students, offering meaningful cross-cultural engagement.

MEMORIAL PLAYGROUND

Our current playground for kids is over 25 years over. To leave a legacy for children, we plan to upgrade the playground area with a collaborative effort of support. So many families & groups currently use the playground. Poster boards will be on display in the lobby areas detailing plans to enhance and create an inviting area for kids and families. For more information, contact Jim Garner (309.439.1833).
